Excerpt from an interview with Diego, published in issue no. 1 of the Black Angel's Roar, a Friendship Story That Has Lasted Over 15 Years!!!
“I discovered Track-Mania Nation ESWC through my brother Cucciolo59 who, despite knowing nothing about PCs, found a promotional page on the Internet from which he could download and install the game, introducing me to it in April 2006. We started with Solo mode and then moved to Hot Seat mode, but in our challenges, we could only race one at a time, even on tracks we designed ourselves. To race all at the same time, we had to join servers and use the tracks we found there, although we would have preferred to race on circuits we had designed ourselves. I tried to understand how it worked better and discovered that it was possible to create your own servers within the game. So I thought of opening a server with our tracks, so we could all play: me, my brother Cucciolo59, and his son Sergio, who enjoyed creating some circuits... we could race, each from our own home, competing on the tracks made by Sergio. We could all race, simultaneously, on the same track. What was the turning point? Where did this Black Angel come from? Server access was open, and we encountered all kinds of players. One day, a 13-year-old boy joined and said: “You have a server?!? Let's form a team then!” Sure, I replied, you choose the name. The boy's name was Mark, and the name he chose was The Dark Angel. Less than a day later, he informed me that another clan was already using that name. So, I changed it to The Black Angel. I abbreviated it to BA because the nicknames were too long... and thus, a quartet appeared on the web for the first time: BaSergio, BaCucciolo59, Badiego, and BaMark. Three days later, Mark apologized but preferred to join another team with better tracks and a forum... since that day, I haven’t heard anything about that boy; he passed through Ba’s history like a meteor before disappearing. And we come to the founding of the Clan... but the real, great turning point, when does it happen? At that time, most pilots frequented the GP1 Server (where GP does not stand for Grand Prix but Ghost Priest), which one day closed for a week, then reopened for ten days, and then disappeared forever. Everyone who frequented that server and couldn’t find it anymore came to us asking where GP1 had gone. Of course, we didn’t know anything... during the same period, new figures appeared: Peppino, Speedfax, P, Babbo, Jarno... and at the same time, Sergio discovered forum.free, and we could finally have our own forum... I asked Sergio if we could replace the hodgepodge of tracks we had been using until then with all the F1 circuits (18 tracks, all designed by Sergio) and opened BaRealGP because, in the meantime, I had started studying servers and how to insert records. And here we come to the famous “great turning point”: one day, I meet Peppino who says to me: “My son knows about this stuff, can we have the forum password?” I gave it to him, and from that moment, everything changed. Peppino continued studying servers, opening and closing several, reaching averages of 20,000 recorded times and 1,200 pilots per month, just on the BaRealGP server."

The Story of the Black Angel Team: From Trackmania Tracks to the World of Simracing
In 2014, the Black Angel Team, a group known for their dominance in the competitive universe of Trackmania, decided to take on a new challenge: simracing. Originally founded as a collective of enthusiasts for the famous arcade racing game, the team had built a reputation for precision, creativity, and teamwork that had taken them to the top of global rankings. However, the desire to grow and test themselves in new areas drove them to explore more realistic and technically demanding horizons.
The Idea of a New Beginning
The idea was born during a community event, when one of the founding members, Alex "ShadowWing" Greco, had the chance to try Assetto Corsa. The experience was eye-opening. Unlike Trackmania, with its surreal tracks and focus on perfect timing, Assetto Corsa offered an accurate simulation of physics, a complete sense of immersion, and a driving experience that rewarded not only speed but also realism.
After sharing the experience with the other members, the team decided to broaden their horizons. The goal? To prove that the talent honed in Trackmania could be transformed into success even in the complex and competitive world of simracing.
The Transition
The transition was not easy. Moving from an arcade game to a simulator required a radical shift in mindset and skills. The Black Angel Team members, known for their millimetric curves in Trackmania, had to adapt to completely new dynamics: tire management, throttle sensitivity, precise braking, and race strategies.
The initial investment was significant. To compete at the highest levels, the team purchased force feedback steering wheels, professional pedal sets, and advanced simulators. Each member embarked on a rigorous training program, studying real tracks, learning vehicle behavior, and analyzing telemetry data like professional drivers.
The First Successes
After months of practice, the Black Angel Team participated in their first official simracing competition: an event on Assetto Corsa replicating the famous Monza circuit. Although they did not reach the podium, their performance surprised many veterans in the field. Their ability to adapt quickly to challenges and their teamwork earned them the respect of the community.
Over time, the team specialized in endurance racing, where cooperation among members was crucial to achieving results. In 2016, the Black Angel Team achieved their first major triumph, winning a 24-hour race on the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. The victory marked a pivotal moment in their history, proving that passion and dedication could overcome any barrier.
The Legacy of the Black Angel Team
Today, the Black Angel Team is considered one of the earliest examples of success in transitioning from arcade gaming to simracing. Their story is a testament to how determination and adaptability can lead to new achievements, even in seemingly very different environments.
Over the years, the team has become an inspiration for many young gamers, showing that a passion for video games can evolve into a career in the competitive world of realistic simulations. And still today, on the most famous virtual circuits in the world, the symbol of the Black Angel Team continues to fly high, a black angel that never stops challenging its limits.

The Black Angel Team and the Move to Assetto Corsa Competizione
In 2018, after gaining solid experience in sim racing with Assetto Corsa, the Black Angel Team decided to take on a new and more ambitious challenge: transitioning to Assetto Corsa Competizione (ACC), the official simulation of the GT World Challenge championship. This move represented a natural evolution for the team, which sought an even more immersive and competitive experience.
Why Assetto Corsa Competizione?Assetto Corsa Competizione elevated sim racing to a higher level thanks to its technical accuracy and fidelity to the GT3 championship. With improved physics, a day-night cycle, and dynamic weather conditions, ACC demanded a more strategic approach and fine-tuning of virtual drivers' skills. The team immediately recognized the game's potential and decided to invest resources and energy to become key players on this new platform.
The New ChallengeThe transition to ACC was not without difficulties. The simulation had an even steeper learning curve than its predecessor, with greater emphasis on managing GT3 cars. To adapt, the Black Angel Team organized an intense preparation phase. This included:
- Car study: Each driver specialized in one car model, mastering its behavior, strengths, and weaknesses.
- Training sessions in dynamic conditions: The team practiced under changing weather conditions, simulating real scenarios such as sudden rain or loss of grip at nightfall.
- Introduction of a data analyst: To further enhance performance, the team introduced a specific role to analyze telemetry data and develop more sophisticated race strategies.
The first competitive season on ACC was not easy. In the official GT3 championships, the competition level was extremely high, with world-class teams and drivers ready to compete. However, thanks to dedication and teamwork, the Black Angel Team gradually began to make a name for themselves.
The breakthrough came in 2019, when the team competed in the European Endurance GT3 Championship. During an epic race at the Silverstone circuit, the Black Angel Team secured second place, proving to be a force to be reckoned with. Their ability to manage pit stop strategies, fuel consumption, and tire management was decisive.
Glory in the Endurance WorldWith the experience gained, the team found their ideal niche in endurance racing. In 2020, the Black Angel Team won the prestigious "24 Hours of Nürburgring" on ACC, a milestone that cemented their status in the sim racing world. The race was an extreme test of endurance and coordination, with perfectly synchronized driving shifts among team members.
The Future of the Black Angel TeamToday, the Black Angel Team is a regular presence in the most prestigious ACC championships. Their dedication has never waned, and they continue to inspire new generations of sim racers. In 2022, the team launched a mentorship program for young talents, aiming to pass on their experience and passion.
The story of the Black Angel Team, from Trackmania to ACC, is a testament to how talent and perseverance can overcome any obstacle. And with their eyes always on the future, the "black angels" continue to conquer virtual tracks, driven by the desire to reach new milestones.
